Ok lol im a 13 year old girl who has mild breakouts sometimes, and theyre annoying cuz i get REALLY freaked out and like yeah..but i want white teeth cuz theyre hot lol :) My teeth are really straight, theyre not yellow, but they can be whiter :)

Our office uses the Supreme which are 4 times stronger than what you can get in the store (and cost $60.00), but the others will work as well but take more time and possibly more than one kit.The results are usually pretty quick, noticeable in the first few days, best in a week or longer.If you can, do yourself the favor of using them right after you get your teeth cleaned as any staining and buildup (tartar, plaque, or orthodontic cement) will impede their ability to work. They will not whiten any white fillings you may have, but whiten uniformly. Also, don't use fluoride toothpaste before putting the strips on (same reason). You should not drink or eat anything dark for at least 1/2 hour after using the strips.
The strips/trays are your least costly whitening method as compared to custom made trays or in office whitening ($500.00+) All of the methods (strips, trays, custom trays, in office whitening) have the potential to make your teeth temporarily sensitive, but will not harm the enamel. If you get sensitive use the product every other day in conjunction with a sensitive tooth toothpaste. You might try to drink dark liquids through a straw and don't smoke. Most whitening toothpastes just remove stain on the surfaces of your teeth and therefore are not so effective. Whatever method you use it will not whiten your teeth for life, as you age your teeth will get darker and may need to be whitened again.

proactiv - because with beautiful skin, people will look at you. if you have beautiful white teeth people will look at you but it will not leave much of an impression than if you have beautiful skin. everyone loves looking at people with beautiful skin. teeth comes second!

The active ingredient in Pro-Active is benzoyl peroxide, which can be found in tons of drugstore products (Neutrogena's Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask has it), and their toner has glycolic acid in it, which, in my opinion can be substituted with a salicylic acid toner like Clean %26amp; Clear's. Benzoyl peroxide can bleach your skin and stuff that's in contact with it (pillowcases, towels, etc.). Honestly, go the drugstore route first, and then ask a dermatologist if that doesn't work. With most drugstores you can return a purchase if you hate it.

Nowadays we expect things quick, whether it's fast food, 1-hour dry cleaning or a quick lube. The latest entry in the speedy sweepstakes is teeth whitening--also known as "teeth bleaching"--with a handful of companies offering to turn teeth from yellow to light ivory in about an hour.
More and more people are seeking a pearly white smile. According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry in Madison, Wis., the number of teeth-whitening procedures being performed annually has increased by more than 300 percent since 1999.
Dentists began teeth bleaching 30 years ago when they discovered hydrogen peroxide and its cousin carbamide peroxide (used to aid gum healing after dental surgery) whitened teeth when the solutions came in contact with tooth enamel.
"It was so strong that if it touched the lips or the gums it would actually injure a person," says Dr. Michael Malone, President of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Malone says that while it worked, dentists didn't have a reliable way to put it on teeth and keep it there long enough for it to be effective.
Peroxide is a strong oxidizing agent (it forms chemical compounds when it comes in contact with staining agents and decolorizes them). The peroxides used for teeth whitening are about 35 percent peroxide. By comparison, the over-the-counter type used to clean skin wounds is about 2 percent hydrogen peroxide.
In today's procedure, light is used to break down peroxide bleaching gels into oxygen molecules. The molecules penetrate the tiny pores of the enamel and dentin, and break up the stains that block out the light. As the stains are broken into smaller and smaller pieces, more light passes through the enamel, making it appear lighter.
Depending on the bleaching gel used and the length of time it is worn, initial results can be seen within an hour, or it can take three to four days. Complete results can be achieved in as little as a week or over the course of several months, depending on the source of the stain and the ability of the tooth to absorb the bleach. The whitening result may last for up to three years--longer in some cases, depending on smoking or drinking habits. To brighten the color back up, a simple process of bleaching for one or two nights with a single syringe of peroxide is usually sufficient.
The major change made over the last 30 years has been in reformulating the bleaching agents so they are more effective and easier to control. To protect against injury to gums and surrounding tissue, most systems isolate teeth with rubber dental dams.
Today's systems use "curing lights" that break down the peroxide gel, causing it to release millions of particles of oxygen and speed up the whitening process.
While there are four main competitors in the 1-hour whitening sweepstakes, Dr. Mark P. Goodman, in New Milford, N.J., says they all operate on the same basic principle. "Some probably work a hair better than the others but they're all very similar," says Goodman. The 1-hour treatments cost about $500 to $600.
Goodman says calling it a 1-hour treatment is a bit of an exaggeration. "Usually you're here about 2 hours before the whole thing is over."
Here are the four best-known quick "chair side" treatments.
A Perfect Smile
For more than a decade, the American Dental Association (ADA) Council on Scientific Affairs has monitored the development of oral hygiene products and dental procedures that boast teeth-whitening properties. As the demand for these products grew, the ADA saw a need for uniform definitions of whiteners.
To this end, the ADA defines "whitening" as any process that causes teeth to appear whiter. For the most part, this can be achieved in two ways. A product can bleach the tooth, which means that it changes the natural tooth color. Bleaching products contain a form of peroxide that helps remove deep or intrinsic, and surface or extrinsic, stains. Nonbleaching whitening products contain agents that use physical or chemical action to help remove surface stains only.
Unfortunately, there is no standard to judge the number of "shades whiter." When manufacturers make this claim, find out the criteria they use, when the measurements are taken, how the "shade" is measured, whether the shade is derived from a controlled scientific study or if subjective criteria are used. "Shades whiter" is more a marketing tool than a scientific measurement.

WHITENS TOPS AND BOTTOMS AT THE SAME TIME
The LumaCool Whitening System (LumaLite, Spring Valley, Calif.)--a follow-on system to the company's LumaArch--uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to activate a bleaching gel with virtually no heat.
The system whitens both arches simultaneously. LumaCool has an optical sensor that turns the device on and off, a countdown display window and remote-control operation. To avoid overexposure, an audible signal indicates when the whitening cycle is complete.
NO PAIN, GREAT GAIN
Featured on the TV show "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy," the Rembrandt Virtuoso System (Rembrandt/Den-Mat, Santa Maria, Calif.) is used by more than 7000 dentists nationwide. It uses Rembrandt Lightning Plus Bleaching Gel with the Rembrandt Sapphire Light as a curing light.
According to company officials, this product has been clinically proved to whiten teeth by as many as 10 shades after one treatment. The procedure can either bleach all teeth at once or one tooth at a time, allowing the dentist to concentrate on problem areas. The power light does not emit ultra-violet rays, so patients don't need sunscreen or sunglasses. Also, the bleaching gel contains a desensitizing agent that helps eliminate the sensitivity people often experience during a professional tooth-bleaching procedure.

Discus Dental's (Culver City, Calif.) Zoom! system uses the FLASHlite 1001 LED curing light, which is powered by a lithium-ion battery. This pocket-size unit delivers fast curing of chemicals containing the photo-initiator camphorquinone (CQ) at the 468- to 470-nanometer range. A digital radiometer is built into the instrument's charger base to ensure that sufficient light has been applied.

Nowadays we expect things quick, whether it's fast food, 1-hour dry cleaning or a quick lube. The latest entry in the speedy sweepstakes is teeth whitening--also known as "teeth bleaching"--with a handful of companies offering to turn teeth from yellow to light ivory in about an hour.
More and more people are seeking a pearly white smile. According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry in Madison, Wis., the number of teeth-whitening procedures being performed annually has increased by more than 300 percent since 1999.
Dentists began teeth bleaching 30 years ago when they discovered hydrogen peroxide and its cousin carbamide peroxide (used to aid gum healing after dental surgery) whitened teeth when the solutions came in contact with tooth enamel.
"It was so strong that if it touched the lips or the gums it would actually injure a person," says Dr. Michael Malone, President of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Malone says that while it worked, dentists didn't have a reliable way to put it on teeth and keep it there long enough for it to be effective.
Peroxide is a strong oxidizing agent (it forms chemical compounds when it comes in contact with staining agents and decolorizes them). The peroxides used for teeth whitening are about 35 percent peroxide. By comparison, the over-the-counter type used to clean skin wounds is about 2 percent hydrogen peroxide.
In today's procedure, light is used to break down peroxide bleaching gels into oxygen molecules. The molecules penetrate the tiny pores of the enamel and dentin, and break up the stains that block out the light. As the stains are broken into smaller and smaller pieces, more light passes through the enamel, making it appear lighter.
Depending on the bleaching gel used and the length of time it is worn, initial results can be seen within an hour, or it can take three to four days. Complete results can be achieved in as little as a week or over the course of several months, depending on the source of the stain and the ability of the tooth to absorb the bleach. The whitening result may last for up to three years--longer in some cases, depending on smoking or drinking habits. To brighten the color back up, a simple process of bleaching for one or two nights with a single syringe of peroxide is usually sufficient.
The major change made over the last 30 years has been in reformulating the bleaching agents so they are more effective and easier to control. To protect against injury to gums and surrounding tissue, most systems isolate teeth with rubber dental dams.
Today's systems use "curing lights" that break down the peroxide gel, causing it to release millions of particles of oxygen and speed up the whitening process.
While there are four main competitors in the 1-hour whitening sweepstakes, Dr. Mark P. Goodman, in New Milford, N.J., says they all operate on the same basic principle. "Some probably work a hair better than the others but they're all very similar," says Goodman. The 1-hour treatments cost about $500 to $600.
Goodman says calling it a 1-hour treatment is a bit of an exaggeration. "Usually you're here about 2 hours before the whole thing is over."
Here are the four best-known quick "chair side" treatments.
A Perfect Smile

As the demand for these products grew, the ADA saw a need for uniform definitions of whiteners.

The LumaCool Whitening System (LumaLite, Spring Valley, Calif.)--a follow-on system to the company's LumaArch--uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to activate a bleaching gel with virtually no heat.
The system whitens both arches simultaneously. LumaCool has an optical sensor that turns the device on and off, a countdown display window and remote-control operation. To avoid overexposure, an audible signal indicates when the whitening cycle is complete.

I've been using listerine's whiten pre-brush mouth wash for about two weeks now. But it does'nt seem to be working.
I also use sensodyne extra white toothpaste. This works pretty good.

However you are not to smoke for 48 hr.s Also, There are bleaching trays where your Dentist's Assistant will take your impressions, and pour up the models of your mouth, and vacuum form trays specifically for your mouth, then you wear the trays with bleaching gel in them for a time frame like 14 days. This works well and you will have your trays handy for touch up bleaching in the future. And last but not least there is over the counter products like Crest strips or other brands. Rembrandt has a nice bleaching system. These are less permanent than the options from your dentist. But they work well. They may take more time to get your teeth as bright as you would like, because typically they are weaker solutions. They all work, and work well but you really should stop the smoking while bleaching your teeth since the bleaching makes your teeth more susceptible to picking up stains for the duration while you are bleaching. How do I make my teeth really white?

I chipped my tooth when I was about 7-8 years old and had to have half of the tooth capped with a ceramic covering, the problem is the tooth is noticeably a different colour than the rest of my teeth. A dentist recently lightened it for me, but not nearly enough...I mean I have some pretty white teeth but this one is not nearly as white...would whitening product work or is that a waste of money?

The good news is that most insurance companies will allow you to have a crown replaced once every 5 years. They will be able to recreate the crown to match the shade of your other teeth perfectly!
P.S. if you plan on whitening your teeth, whiten them BEFORE you get the new crown. That way they can match the crown to the whiter shade of your teeth.

Sounds weird i know, but i want the bright glowing white-blue teeth. Like that "I spent waaaay to much money on my teeth" kind of look, without the price. Right now my teeth are very white, but not that blue-white colour.

If you skimp on those you will end up with bad-fake looking teeth, like cheap denture teeth. You could try Zoom! It's the most expensive in-office whitening procedure, but it produces the fastest and most dramatic results and is less expensive than good veneers, also not damaging to your teeth like veneers.

If you do not belive me look at a bottle of it it will state on there it can be used as an oral rinse...Just do not swallow it...the peroxide effect wil whiten teeth..but it is not a miracle that will happen overnight...It...do it three times a day for a week and you WILL see results..hope this helps///////P.S....it will also help with those nasty canker sores that most of us get

1. Be sure to floss really well.
2. Go buy a metal tooth scraper (you can get one at any Walmart--just ask someone if you can't find it) to remove the plaque off of your teeth--this is the same process used by dentists during regular cleanings and checkups!!!
3. After nothing else comes off of your teeth when scraping, (make sure to scrape all sides--and especially the fronts of your teeth because they're the main visible ones) then rinse with a solution of half hydrogen peroxide and half water. (Example: 1oz of water + 1oz hydrogen peroxide = 2oz of rinsing solution.) You should rinse with this solution for at least 30 seconds, preferrably 1 minute. Swish it around like you would mouthwash, but make sure not to swallow any!
4. Brush your teeth with normal toothpaste for at least two minutes and make sure not to miss a spot. (Hard-bristled brushes work the best.)
5. Finally rinse with the hydrogen peroxide solution (from step 3) again for 30 seconds. (You might want to rinse with water after this because this process will make your mouth a little dry. I usually have to drink some water after.)
I don't suggest doing this more than once a week, however after you have done this more than two times you can use straight hydrogen peroxide without any water when rinsing. I guarantee that if you do a good job your teeth with be visibly whiter--usually after the very first time! This process has never failed for me and I have the whitest teeth that I've ever had in my entire life. Good luck!

Is it true that a person can get white teeth by using charcoal with baking soda as a paste? Or, lemon juice with cigarette ash?

You should only buy from legitimate companies who sell the tubes WITH the contents written onto them in which the peroxide comes. Not some cheap syringe in a plastic bag!
I touch up every now and again by buying 20% carbamide peroxide from nuwhite.net which costs me around £30 for 3 tubes.
I also use Supersmile (www.supersmile.com), don't bother with any of the other whitening toothpastes out there, this one not only cleans it bleaches at the same time, so works very well when you bleach with carmamide peroxide.
In 2 weeks you'll definately notice the difference,

2: avoid abrasive toothpaste as these work by taking layers of enamel off the teeth.
3: tea, coffee, red wine smoking all stain the teeth if you drink alot of these try cutting down.
4: try using forever bright aloe vera toothpaste along with your usual toothpaste (reason for this as aloe vera toothpaste has no flouride added to it and flouride is important)

Once you get the stains removed, it will be a lot easier to keep them off! Using a soft toothbrush and whitening toothpaste can do wonders alone.
If you want the hollywood white, then talk to the dentist about home bleaching. He/she will suggest the trays or the in house method. If your interested in the strips you should know that they do not last, they give a temporary brightness to the teeth.
The custom trays ususally takes a few minutes to a couple of hours a day for about two weeks to reach your desired results. Most patients I've found love this type of whitening. It allows them to "touch up" by bleaching whenever they feel their teeth are getting stained again. The average cost of this is around $200-400. It's the method of bleaching I've used for over 15 years now.
The one hour system that the dentist does in his office, it's quiet expensive though, somewhere around the $600-$700 area. Some dentist don't use it or recomend it due to the sensitivity it causes. Reply:some may find this odd but i was watching oprah about 2 years ago had some dentist specialist on her show on do it your slef dental and they said that f you buy MR.CLEAN magic erasor $3.99 and tear of a small piece wet it and then wipe your teeth vigorusly with it it will whiten them up signifigantly then brush immediatly afterwards my husband had a big yellow stain on his two front teeth before our wedding from smoking and i tryed it and you wouldnt even know he had a stain so maybe you could try it its good for Tons of other thing removes nail polish everything hope this helps even though it is a little bizzare but OPRAH said it so cant be that bad other wise im sure someone would have sued her by now for it

They are very sensitive and I feel as if i just got braces tightened or something. They are not as glamorous as they make them seem either. You are supposed to be able to talk with them in but talking is nearly impossible, and it is hard to swallow with them in. And when you swallow some of the peroxide from the strips is swallowed too! But they only have to be on for 30 minutes twice a day. I think I am gonna have to start doing it once a day though, cuz my teeth are really getting sensitive. Even though they are messy and make my teeth hurt, they seem worth it to me. I can not ever seem to make my teeth whiter, but white strips are actually working! Be sure to buy the premium...not the regular! And as far as being harmful..the sensitivity is supposedly normal and it is just peroxide on a strip so it isnt toxic. I was never big on brushing my teeth and now thier kinda in bad shape, well my prom is coming up May 25 (giveing me about a month) and i want nice white teeth, i have been using crest vivid white tooth paste for about a month and have seen a difference but i need more. Has anyone of you watched an episode of FRIENDS in which Ross's teeth has gone super white after using some gel? I want to know what kind of gel is that and where to buy it. Of course he has left the gel on his teeth way longer than instructed so the result is scary, but i am interested in that gel he used because i have tried tons of ways to whiten my teeth but they never really effectively remove the yellowish "feeling" of my teeth. I am never a smoker!

I touched up here and there over the years but not I'm in college and drink coffee several times a day (can't help it!), so my teeth have noticeably yellowed. The baking soda every once in awhile is ok, too frequently is bad for the enamel and the tissue. So let's start from the beginning and see if we can get you the white that will keep you smiling!
To start with the best and easiest way is to see your dentist for a cleaning. They can remove the stains caused from the coffee, tea and smoking. Then the rest is up to your home care in keeping the stains off. Once you get the stains removed, it will be a lot easier to keep them off! Using a soft toothbrush and whitening toothpaste can do wonders alone, but sometimes you need a little extra help.
If you want the hollywood white, then talk to the dentist about home bleaching. He/she will suggest two different methods that are known to work well. One is bleaching trays that are custom made from impressions taken of your teeth. These work with a solution the dentist provides for you. The other is the in house, or one hour bleaching method that the doctor or his assistant preforms at the office.
The custom trays ususally takes a few minutes to a couple of hours a day for about two weeks to reach your desired results. Most patients I've found love this type of whitening. It allows them the freedom to judge when they need to "touch up" by bleaching whenever they feel their teeth have gotten stained from time, coffee, tea, wines and other things. It also allows them to touch up again months, or years down the road. The average cost of this is around $200-400. It's the method of bleaching I've used for over 15 years now, and I highly recommend this one.
Then there is the one hour system that the dentist does in his office, it's quiet expensive though, somewhere around the $600-$700 area. Some dentist don't use it or recomend it due to the sensitivity it causes. It's bleaching usually last for a couple of years and requires touch up with bleaching pens and mouthwashes which are expensive too. This gives you the instant white but the results aren't lasting.
So, it's really up to you and how much you want to spend to get those "pearly" whites. I would check around on the prices in your area. But the key question is, are you willing to maintain it, with regular appointments with your dentist and diligent home care? Talk to your dentist, they can answer all of your questions. Good luck!

Patients are given oral pain medications in most cases and usually last about a year or two with use of the whitening pen and mouthwashes. Reply:Try "Listerine Whitening." I was a smoker for 14 years, until I recently quit. I use that twice a day before I brush. It has a more concentrated level of peroxide in it than you can purchase in the stores. After about two weeks I notice a major difference in my teeth. Just a word of caution, use as directed. You don't want to mix too many products or over do it with any of them, or else you might do more harm than good to the enamel of your teeth. You might get results faster, but you only have one set of adult teeth!

The baking soda is not a good idea because it is too abrasive and it will wear the enamel down on your teeth. Your teeth will be more sensitive in the end but ask your doctor for prevident toothpaste for the sensitivity. It works!

Reply:hahaha everyone is their own worst critic, but i don't think your teeth are that yellow! it's natural for teeth to stain, so don't worry. and everyone has that one bad habit--coffee/tea/soda/wine drinking, smoking, etc.
i've used crest white strips, and they work great. they don't harm your teeth, don't weaken your enamel or anything like that.

Baking soda and peroxide do help in whitening however you would been to be careful and not use baking soda too often because it can lead to erosion of your teeth and can cause sensitivity along with the whitening strips. Using sensodine (doesn't take much) toothpaste during the process usually takes care of that.

The baking soda every once in awhile is ok, too frequently is bad for the enamel and the tissue. So let's start from the beginning and see if we can get you the white that will keep you smiling!
To start with the best and easiest way is to see your dentist for a cleaning. They can remove the stains caused from the coffee, tea and smoking. Then the rest is up to your home care in keeping the stains off. Once you get the stains removed, it will be a lot easier to keep them off! Using a soft toothbrush and whitening toothpaste can do wonders alone, but sometimes you need a little extra help.
If you want the hollywood white, then talk to the dentist about home bleaching. He/she will suggest two different methods that are known to work well. Some dentist don't use it or recomend it due to the sensitivity it causes. It's bleaching usually last for a couple of years and requires touch up with bleaching pens and mouthwashes which are expensive too. This gives you the instant white but the results aren't lasting.
So, it's really up to you and how much you want to spend to get those "pearly" whites. I would check around on the prices in your area.
